Want to Study Fashion Law? Now You Can

When you think of studying fashion, likely the first thing that comes to mind is either fashion design or fashion editorial. But, shockingly, there hasn't been an official way to study the laws relevant to the fashion industry—until now.

According to Refinery29, Fordham University (with some support from designer Diane von Furstenberg and the CFDA) has added the world's first fashion law degree program to its roster for the fall semester. Why it's so important: Designers and other creators in the fashion world will finally have an entire group of educated people whose entire role in the workforce is to protect their intellectual property.

"Designers get so screwed over," Susan Scafidi, the academic director of Fordam's Fashion Law Institute, told Refinery29. "We need to educate and bring in lawyers who know what they’re talking about."
