7 Outfits for Looking Smart in Winter and Not Like Michelin Man

Winter outfits are notoriously un-smart. Bundles of fabric don't exactly help you look your chicest, especially when you start resembling the Michelin man. But while the temperatures might be dropping, there are ways to stay feeling and looking stylish even when it's practically freezing outside. We turned to our street style favourites, who have managed to work the cold weather to their advantage, and have come up with a few ways to dress when all you want to do is stay under a duvet. From chunky knit and midi skirt combos to the most ladylike way to wear a bomber jacket, we've even given you a chill factor rating so you'll know which outfit to wear when. Keep scrolling for our guide on how to look smart in the winter...

Stye Notes: There's nothing chicer than a midi skirt and a chunky knit to give your office wardrobe a winter overhaul. Add bright shoes to make it fun too.

#2: Beanie hat + long coat + ankle boots

Stye Notes: You can't really beat a beanie hat in the winter. If you're worried about it not looking chic enough, just make sure you wear a structured coat and your smartest ankle boots

#3: Oversized coat + massive scarf + long skirt

Stye Notes: For a guaranteed warming outfit that still looks great, opt for an oversized coat. Yes, they're in right now but buy one you love and you'll keep it forever.

We spotted this find on Fearne Cotton first. And we can't stop thinking about it.

#4: Long dress + big coat + brogues

Stye Notes: Long dresses are so helpful when it comes to covering up in the colder months. Even better is that you can re-wear your summer dresses too, provided you add a pair of 40 denier tights of course.

#5: Boots + tee + long leather jacket

Stye Notes: When it's still cold but it's also starting to be less freezing, you can always turn to this type of outfit. The ankle boots need to give you some warmth and the leather jacket is ideal for keeping out any sudden chilly winds.

The Finery has done some great work with this jacket.

#6: Puffer coat + long dress + knee-high boots

Stye Notes: Not everyone loves a puffer jacket but if you're quite partial to them, then take a tip from Caroline Issa on how to keep them chic: Ensure it's body length and has a great collar. Your midi dress and OTK boots will still look incredible.

#7: Heavy wool coat + hoodie + hat + ankle boots

Stye Notes: No, we haven't lost our minds, a hoodie can be smart. Wear it with a sophisticated trench coat and boots and you might even feel ready for the office.

When your hoodie is from Burberry, you'll always be smart.
