If you have an Instagram account, odds are you scroll past one of these common photo scenarios daily. Or perhaps you’re even guilty of posting one from time to time. Turner explained that the three selfie scenarios with the most noticeable decline in performance are the mirror selfie, the Uber or backseat selfie, and the common elevator selfie.
Although this photo is slightly overdone, Turner said “since there’s a lot that can catch the eye,” it is still performing and wins as the least “cliché” of the bunch.
Posting a series of back-to-back photos in the same outfit with only a slightly different pose will not win over likes. Thanks to Turner, we learned that typically users will like one from the series and then are ready to move on to something new.
The brunch photo is super saturated at this point, Turner said with a laugh: “How many beautiful lattes and plates of avocado toast can one see without it getting old?”
When you can tell a photo is overly staged, it does not perform well. Over-posing breaks down the authenticity, resulting in a disconnect of what’s being posted in real time, Turner explained.
