Whoa: Donna Karan Is Stepping Down

In April, we were a bit shocked by the news that New York design duo Public School would take over as the head designers at DKNY—and now that appointment is starting to make some more sense. According to WWDDonna Karan is officially stepping down from for her role as the chief designer at her company Donna Karan International.

The 66-year-old designer, an icon in her own right, is leaving the business to focus on her more charitable outlet, the Urban Zen Company and Foundation. Karan will remain on at DKI as a "close adviser" to the company and has signed a long-term contract in that new role.

"I have arrived at a point in my life where I need to spend more time to pursue my Urban Zen commitment to its fullest potential, and follow my vision of philanthropy and commerce with a focus on health care, education and preservation of cultures," Karan said in a statement about the split. "After considering the right time to take this step for several years, I feel confident that DKI has a bright future and a strong team in place."

Karan co-founded DKI in 1984 with her late husband, Stephen Weiss, so it will be incredibly interesting to see where the company goes now that it will be out from under her leadership. What do you think of Karan's decision? Tell us below, and keep scrolling to shop our favourite DKNY pieces now!
