It's Trench-Coat Season—This Is the One All Our Editors Love

There are a lot of good things about autumn. Kicking up the leaves on a crisp weekend walk, roast dinners back on the table, and, of course, cosy evenings in front of the best television shows with a large glass of red wine. I could go on. But one of my favourite things about this season (spoken like a true fashion person), are trench coats

For me, a trench coat is the perfect trans-seasonal coat. On those surprisingly warm days it's effortless (and not sweaty) thrown over a thin knit and your favourite jeans. But when cold snaps come there's still plenty of room underneath for a thick cashmere roll neck. Not to mention it works excellently in the rain. The second I feel a chill in the air, my trench goes on and so you know without me having to tell you that I've been wearing my for a good couple of weeks now.

As someone who lives in London and has classic wardrobe taste, a trench is one of the hardest-working pieces in my capsule. And that’s mainly because I find it to be the most efficient and effective way to make any outfit look expensive. Invest in the perfect trench, and feeling good about your outfit at this transitional time of year becomes a whole lot easier.

By now, most of us will have at least one in our wardrobes, but if you haven't yet committed, or maybe you’re looking to update your existing trench after years of wear and tear—you’re in luck this season. I’m here to tell you you don’t have to spend thousands on a designer style to get the most polished look. Good old COS, one of our favourite high-street destinations for expensive-looking classics, has the *perfect* style. And trust me when I say I come to that judgement after seeing (and trying) A LOT of trench coats.

The brand's Regular-Fit Twill Trench Coat is as classic as it gets, made in that beautifully stiff cotton (the key to making your trench look elevated) with timeless features such as a storm flap, and wrist buckles, and waist belt (important for creating shape when wearing a lot of layers in the colder months). The beige is of course a classic, but if you're someone who reliably spills your morning coffee and prefers to opt for darker layers there's also a chic black version too.

Unsurprisingly, it’s already been picked up by lots of influencers, not to mention a number of our editors. So I thought I’d share it with you now before it inevitably sells out. You’ll find a link to it below as well as some more beautiful trenches from COS and beyond I’ve been admiring this season.
