5 Low-Key Coat Trends People in London, Paris and New York Are Wearing Right Now

In the UK, a coat is basically an essential for say, 80 per cent of the year. And this is why it's important to find "The One". You know, the style that you actually won't mind covering up your carefully considered outfits with. So, we've taken it upon ourselves to decipher the coat trends worth wearing for the new season and beyond.

The autumn/winter 2023 runways were awash with statement outerwear—we saw leather trench coats at Saint Laurent, textured styles in every colour of the rainbow from Versace and Diesel, and hemlines went maxi to join the skirt and dress styles everyone has loved this year.

No matter your taste, we guarantee you'll want to welcome one of these five outerwear trends into your coat closet for 2023. Scroll through to see (and shop!) the chicest coats this autumn has to offer.

1. Chocolate-Brown Hues

Style Notes: Viva Magenta may be the official Pantone colour of the year for 2023, but if you're done with pink, chocolate brown is the answer. Make like Dawn and go matchy-matchy in the boot department, too.

2. Something Suede

Style Notes: If there's one girl guaranteed to make your Insta feed a chicer place, it's Anna. And recently, she's barely taken off this easy suede coat. Sure, it's not something you'll want to get caught in a downpour wearing but there's no denying the fact it looks incredibly elevated. What's more, this is a coat trend you can easily thrift at secondhand and vintage stores, so be sure to check your local preloved haunt.

3. Luxe Leather Trenches

Style Notes: Saint Laurent and Versace put leather coats on the catwalk for 2023, and naturally influencers have already been wearing them. Monikh has opted for classic black, but any colour (even gold) goes.

4. To The Max

Style Notes: With the return of maxi skirts and dresses, of course coats have been gone south, too. Whether it's to your ankles or the floor, just like Marisa, just make sure your coats are longline for 2023.

5. It's The Bomb

Style Notes: For those days when a heavy coat is just too much, turn to the bomber. A slightly roomy fit works best, especially for layering knitwear under, and Marilyn makes us want to try a leather style immediately. Still, you can't go wrong with nylon or wool either.
