While we often look to celebrities for wedding dress inspiration, we seem to forget that even stars are sometimes the bridesmaids and not the bride. So today we’re rounding up our favourite famous wedding attendants (think Cara, Jessica Alba, Kate Bosworth and the Olsens), along with the stylish, not-so-bridesmaid-y dresses you need to get each of the looks.
But there is one thing that every A-lister has to bear in mind when being a bridesmaid for a friend (especially one who isn't a celeb themselves): Don’t show up the bride. Thankfully, all these bridesmaids have managed to look elegant and pretty without taking away the spotlight, which is good news if you’ve got a famous friend. Keep scrolling for our guide to the best celebrity bridesmaid dresses.
Having your own fashion brand comes in pretty handy. It certainly did for Harley Viera-Newton in 2017 when her bevvy of beautiful bridesmaids (including her sister Rio and Joséphine de La Baume and Cassie Coane) got to wear flattering, pretty printed dresses from her label, HVN. Love how each girl chose different shoes—take note, brides.
Pippa Middleton definitely had her “bridesmaid moment” when Kate and William got married, but it was the DoC’s turn this year to choose an equally gorgeous look—and that she did with this elegant, understated bespoke piece from Alexander McQueen. Along with her daughter, Princess Charlotte, they blended into P-Middy’s English countryside theme splendidly.
We don’t need to ask if you think this is the chicest bridal party you’ve ever seen because we know the answer. As well as the Olsen twins being a part of Gomelsky creative director Cassie Coane’s big day, Harley Viera-Newton was also one of many bridesmaids all wearing incredible gowns. We can’t even start to pick a favourite.
Emily Ratajkowski was a bridesmaid in October 2016 for a friend’s wedding. Fun fact: She designed the dress herself with Christy Dawn. Only 75 were made, with all proceeds going to Planned Parenthood.
When you have a lot of bridesmaids, having them stick to a theme (but not wear the exact same dress) looks incredible. Rachel Bilson was part of this team of bridesmaids this year (if you need help spotting her, she’s in the top right).
