6 Easy Autumn Outfits I Can't Wait to Wear

If you're still holding out for that second August heatwave, then you might want to look away now because I'm about to rain on your parade. (Quite literally—have you seen the weather outside?) I've always been drawn towards the enveloping silhouettes of autumn, partly because I can't stand the sweaty logistics that come with heatwave dressing but also because there's so much more creative potential in layering. I find that there's only so much you can do with a summer dress.

Autumn is a time to experiment with statement jackets, create unexpected pairings with blouses and jumpers and give your midi dresses an edge with chunky boots and equally chunky knits. So yes, it might only be July, but I'm already scouting out the cold-weather outfits that I plan on re-creating the moment the mercury drops.

Many of my chosen looks centre on tailored hero pieces, such as wide-leg trousers or a colour-pop blazer. The key is to dress them down with casual staples, such as denim, white tees or ballet flats. At the top of my list is Linda Tol's super-simple, but also super-chic, knitted tank and black trousers. By sticking to neutral tones, you can then go to town with colourful accessories or a statement coat. Your options are limitless. Scroll down to see and shop the autumn outfits I can't wait to wear this year.

1. Knitted Vest + Black Trousers

A knotted tank top is an easy way to warm up (and add fashion kudos) to a white top and black trousers. Just finish with ballet pumps and an oversized trench.

2. Colour-Pop Cable-Knit + Contrasting Trousers

Renia Jaz makes a good case for colour clashing this autumn. The secret is picking two colours that sit on opposite ends of the colour wheel.

3. Trench Coat + Plaid Trousers

Plaid is an autumnal print that will never get old. Embrace a heritage vibe, and style it with a classic trench coat and heeled boots.

4. Green Blazer + Slim-Leg Jeans

Green is the new black. Well, for 2021 anyway. Make like Estelle Chemouny, and use a colour-pop blazer to add interest to your fave jeans-and-white-tee combo.

5. Blue Shirt + Layered Leather Tank

I know this isn't exactly a low-key look, but I'm obsessed with the contrast of the corporate tailoring with the textured-leather crop top. It's 100% runway-ready.

6. Split-Hem Trousers + Swirl-Print Top

The psychedelic swirl print isn't going anywhere for autumn, and I plan on taking my fashion cues from Abisola Omole and tucking a printed top into a pair of split-hem trousers.
