5 Lingerie Styles the Sex and the City Girls Would Approve Of

A good deal of attention was rightfully dedicated to the enviable wardrobes of Sex and the City’s characters throughout the series’s six-season run, but we don’t think they got enough credit for the pieces they wore underneath. Thanks to the varied escapades of the four friends, there was plenty of lingerie-based action to be had. From Carrie Bradshaw’s Y-fronts to Samantha Jones’s lime-green cami (very 2018) to Charlotte York’s vampish sheer nightie, the series was a treasure trove of ’90s underwear inspiration. With autumn/winter 2018 embracing all things throwback, we decided to do a roundup of the four lingerie looks we reckon the SATC girls would be obsessed with right now (with a little help from @everyoutfitonsatc). Scroll down to see our favourite lingerie moments and shop the pieces.

Style Notes: Carrie loves a good bra-flashing moment, and this La Perla scalloped number was worn to seduce her then-boyfriend Berger. For a 2018 update, opt for a more pastel shade of pink and contrasting straps. It’s up to you if you want to shrug the majority of your top off.

Style Notes: Oh, Samantha, how we love your exhibitionist tendencies. In this classic SATC moment, Samantha slips on a velvet cloak (so casual), satin gloves and black lingerie to surprise her lover. Black underwear never goes out of style, so you can invest in the below beauties guilt-free.

Style Notes: Another Samantha classic. We had to include this look, as the lime-green hue feels very current (expect to see plenty more come summer 2019). Cami NYC offers a chic update with its sage-coloured lace-trimmed camisole.

Style Notes: This sultry sheer nightie is more Samantha than Charlotte; however, desperate measures were needed to reignite the spark with husband Trey in Season 3. The fashion crowd are into sheer fabrics for daytime this season, but these lacy numbers are (IMHO) strictly for the bedroom only.

Style Notes: While we’re not a huge fan of Carrie’s saggy Y-fronts, there’s something incredibly modern about the basic, unisex underwear look. Calvin Klein is still a go-to for androgynous pieces, whilst COS is a must for basic bras.
