4 Ways to Wear a Classic Breton Top

As fun as it is to experiment with new and innovative styles and silhouettes, sometimes the best outfits are built-upon those wardrobe classics that never really age. The Breton top has to be one of the most iconic pieces in the timeless style stakes, with its historical roots that date back to the early 20th century when Coco Chanel co-opted the striped marinière for her own use.

Fast forward a century at the Breton still holds a special place in the fashion lovers' wardrobe and has retained its distinctive Parisian appeal. But as with all fashion classics, the joy comes from mixing up your styling, experimenting with different pairings, and offering the item of clothing a contemporary kick. For the Breton top, this might mean throwing together with a pair of leather trousers and a denim jacket or opting for white denim and sandals. Really, there are so many ways to work the Breton.

I hunted down some of my favourite Breton outfits with a little help from Instagram's most stylish. Whatever your style, there'll be a Breton look for you. Scroll down to see my edit.
