Explain your job in one sentence please: The Coveteur takes you inside the homes and closets of todays tastemakers and allows you to shop the items found in their wardrobes; so yeah, basically our job consists of snooping through celebs sock drawers for a living. OK, its way cooler than that"who are we kidding?! What is a typical workday like for you? A typical workday begins and ends with emails; we spend a ton of time corresponding with our clients, creating content, and more. When were travelling (which is very often!) we start the day early"if were lucky we can squeeze in a Starbucks run!"and then its a mad dash from shoot to shoot. Every day is interesting; there really never is a dull moment around here, nor is any day the same. It totally depends on where we are, but were constantly styling, shooting, editing, writing, consulting and more"were total work-a-holics! What is your go-to work outfit? Its all about comfort for us. We both love a slouchy printed pant that can be dressed up with a leather jacket and heels for a meeting or drinks. Our summer staple for work is a flowy maxi dress whether were in the office or on set styling and shooting. Steph has a weakness for a nautical striped shirt and Erin collects vintage tees"the more destroyed, the better! How did you get this job? Did you always know you wanted it? We created this job! We saw a void in the industry and realised it was a perfect fusion of our past jobs (Erin as a designer, Steph as a stylist, and Jake as a photographer) and our passion. It definitely started as a passion project. We both had backgrounds as editors"Erin worked as the assistant to W magazines Fashion Director, Alex White, and Steph worked alongside ELLEs Kate Lanphear and celeb stylists Leslie Fremar and Annabel Tollman. The Coveteur is really just a post-modern version of what we were doing before; we edit through product, we style vignettes, and we curate a gallery based on the individual and their aesthetic. We definitely didnt know that this is what we always wanted to do, but we did know that we wanted to be entrepreneurs and create something that didnt exist in fashion currently. What did you do before you started your company/freelance career? Before breaking into the design scene, Erin honed her skills working alongside the fashion industrys best, assisting FASHION magazines Susie Sheffman and eventually settling in NYC to assist W Magazines Alex White, the veteran Fashion Director at the helm for over 15 years. As Alex Whites right-hand-girl, Erin assisted her in styling photo shoots with George Clooney and Keira Knightley and on major campaigns for Cline, Oscar de la Renta, and Chanel. At 20, Erin carved her way into the contemporary design market, owning and operating her eponymous womenswear line, erinkleinberg. Her buzzed-about lookbooks (featuring Harley Viera-Newton, Irina Lazareanu, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Vanessa Traina and Theodora Richards) targeted the uptown/downtown girl Erin channelled each season. Everyone from Karlie Kloss and Kim Kardashian to Gossip Girl starlets, Taylor Momsen and Blake Lively has been spotted rocking EKI. Erin's collection was sold in over 80 stores worldwide, including, Holt Renfrew, Barneys, Intermix, Saks, Lane Crawford, Harvey Nichols. Steph's background is heavily rooted in styling. Her portfolio of work spans across the commercial and editorial fields of fashion, in addition to prominent marketing projects with esteemed clients like the Hudsons Bay Company. Starting with her studies at the prestigious Parsons School of Design, Steph interned at 3.1 Phillip Lim and Intermix"who she later collaborated with as a client of her own. Her extensive editorial background working with some of the industrys most noted fashion editors and executives began with an apprenticeship at Harpers Bazaar, where Steph worked alongside Nicole Fritton, the mags Market Editor. She then assisted ELLE magazines Style Director, Kate Lanphear, on major ad campaigns like Converse by John Varvatos. After her apprenticeship with Lanphear, Steph moved on to work with noted celebrity stylists Leslie Fremar and Annabel Tollman. To date, her personal roster of Hollywood clients includes Jennifer Connelly, Michelle Williams, Charlize Theron and Julianne Moore. In addition to styling, Mark worked at Women Management, where she managed many of the major players in the modelling world: Agyness Deyn, Isabeli Fontana, and Carmen Kass. What's the best part of your job? The worst? The best part? There are so many! Wed have the say the people we work with on a daily basis. From our core team to our amazing Coveteurs, we feel so privileged to be surrounded by such talented, inspiring, smart, and supportive people. The worse? Thats hard! Travelling back and fourth between New York and LA (with London and Paris in between!) is always fun, but the jet lag is never enjoyable. How important is having a fashionable/chic work area? Its so important! We chose this space because it was a blank canvas that had a ton of character and we knew it would be a great basis to showcase our photos. Our workspace is surrounded with some of our favourite framed photos, art/fashion/photography books that we constantly source for inspiration, and a ton of colourful office supplies and decorative accents to keep it fresh. Do you email or use the phone more? Email definitely. What surprises you the most about your career? The people we meet and work with on a daily basis. We have an ongoing joke that every time we leave someones house we always find ourselves saying, That was the nicest person weve ever met! or That was the best closet weve ever seen! What changes do you make to your look if you have to go to dinner or drinks immediately after work? Answered above! What items do you think every working girl should own (clothing and accessories)? A leather jacket, a black pair of stilettos, flats (we love Repetto!), a tailored pair of pants, Oribe texturizing spray, Elnett hairspray, a Smythson notebook, tons of pens and an iPhone (and a backup iPhone battery!). Do you use a Mac or a PC? (or Blackberry or iPhone?) Mac and iPhone " always and forever. What do you listen to when you're working? We love to listen to 90s tunes, Drake, Jay-Z, and old school hip-hop. Oh, and with YouTube clips of Honey Boo Boo Child, Anna Dello Russos Fashion Shower, and the Honey Badger in between! What do you try to teach your interns/assistants? Spelling (especially peoples name!) and the follow-up is everything. But most importantly, work hard and be nice to people. Have you fulfilled your career goal or do you still have more to achieve? Until Jay-Z or Michelle Obama is Coveteurd there is still plenty for us to achieve! Youll have to stay tuned! What advice would you give to someone who wants to emulate your career path? Do what you love and the rest will come! Find a void and then find an innovative way to fill it. Thats really what its all about"finding little cracks that need to be filled. The world of blogging is an endless sea of opportunities. We wanted to deconstruct the idea of street style and take it one step further and go behind-the-scenes and straight to where the magic happens: the closet. We wanted to show people how the tastemakers they have become obsessed with as a result of street style blogs get dressed everyday and deconstruct how their sartorial choices are made.
