The Best Kind of Dress for Your Work Christmas Party

I’m sure your December planner is basically already full with festive drinks, dinners and—not to forget—your work Christmas party. It’s the one day of the year when everyone really lets their hair down (yes, people from the IT department, we’re talking about you) and the perfect opportunity to show your true colours to your fellow colleagues, so the outfit is everything.

But don’t just reach for that classic LBD you have collecting dust in the back of your wardrobe. You can still do sequins, ruffles and—believe it or not—minidresses (without it being totally inappropriate). So if you want to be the talk of the office (for all the right reasons, of course), you’ll want to see what dresses we’ve found to suit different budgets and tastes. There are also a few simples rules you’ll need to stick to.

Sequins are very much a Christmas party favourite this season, with so many about from 16 Arlington all the way to Zara. Master these by doing sequins in a midi or long sleeve dress in order to keep things sensible.

We’re not ruling out minidresses either, as long as they’re high-neck and long-sleeved, and not body-con, they’re in. Alexandre Vauthier has just the perfect satin ruffle version we’ve already added to our wish list.

For a total failsafe option, turn to wrap dresses. It’s not new news these are one of our favourite styles, but pick one up in a metallic or velvet and you’ll be totally nailing Christmas 2018.

Steer away from anything sheer or nude, and don’t wear white (it’s just asking to have some drunken idiot pour red wine all over it).

If you have to go from office to drinks without a change of clothes, then opt for something that looks cool with either sneakers or tights and boots so you can just do a quick switcheroo with shoes.

We’ve done the hard work for you, so now shop our favourite Christmas party dresses for your next office get-together from the edit below…
