It's no secret that we are big Meghan Markle fans here at Who What Wear. We have closely followed her many and varied fashion choices over her short stint as a royal and will continue to do so as she moves into a new phase as a civilian (of sorts). While she hasn't exactly been avant-garde with her personal style, Meghan hasn't shied away from more trend-led pieces, and last week was no exception: For one of her last appearances as a member of the royal family, she stepped out in a very 2020 puffed-sleeve blouse by high-street fave Topshop.
Meghan's latest look inspired me to take a look at Topshop's new-in tops and blouses, and I found three styles in particular that I instantly fell in love with, which look far beyond their high-street price tag. Are you taking note, Meghan? From the designer-looking smocked top that was made to be worn with jeans and heels to the Mr Darcy–inspired smock shirt many of our team is adding to their baskets as we speak, scroll down to see the Duchess of Sussex–inspired tops I found at Topshop this week.
Style Notes: The smocked blouse is definitely having a moment right now, and this Topshop iteration is arguably one of the best on the high street. Seriously statement-making yet unexpectedly flattering, this is the perfect top to wear with jeans and heels. The fabric is also robust enough to make it feel more premium than its £36 price tag.
Style Notes: There is a risk that this top could feel a little "6-year-old at a princess party," but the taffeta fabric creates a more dramatic silhouette and the lilac hue is very S/S 20. I also like how my L'Agence flares offer a more grown-up finish and make it look evening-ready.
Style Notes: The moment I showed team Who What Wear this smocked blouse they instantly fell in love. Not always the easiest style to wear, this Topshop Boutique iteration manages to feel flattering thanks to the necktie collar and dramatic sleeves. It'll also look just as good with jeans and boots as it does with flares and heels.
