The 4 Summer Trainers Trending in Paris, Milan, London and NYC

Trainers have well and truly become the mainstay of every fashion lover's capsule wardrobe. After making their first tentative steps into the hallowed halls of high fashion in 2015, styles like Stan Smiths soon became the must-have item for magazine editors and teenagers alike.

From that point on, casual has remained cool and the line between high and low fashion has slowly merged (we're looking at you, Vetements). In the intervening years, more and more brands have followed suit, entering the global arena to compete for It sneaker status—think old-school labels like Converse to newer brands like Veja. Trainers are big business.

Here at Who What Wear, we want to make sure you're kept on top of the latest trends, so we've scoured Instagram to find out which summer sneakers are trending in the world's most stylish cities. From London to Milan and Paris to NYC, there's a look for every taste. Scroll down to get the intel and shop the best styles.

It seems that London girls right now are universally wearing Vejas. The brand, which creates sustainable sneakers, has grown in popularity especially in the past year, and it appears that the UK's capital is one of the places we've spotted them the most. Whether styling them with a pretty floral summer dress or just with jeans and a jumper, these are a great choice for consumers who want to buy ethically and dress chicly.

Parisians aren't known for their love of sneakers but when they wear them they often opt for more classic or retro styles. Case in point: New Balance vintage-look trainers. Ideally styled with straight-leg jeans and a trench coat or with a maxi dress.

While the chunky "ugly" and "dad" sneakers have been super popular for a while now, New Yorkers are pushing back on this trend by going for super simple plimsol sneakers. Think of brands such as Superga (Kate Middleton and Alexa Chung also love this brand) and Keds, which are best worn with minidresses.

The '90s appears to be rubbing off on Milan right now with the likes of Old Skool Vans and Converse being popular on Instagrammers. However, make sure you still to the black styles to ensure maximum versatility.
