This Is Officially the Only Shoe Trend That Matters This Year

After celebrating the glorious return of Western boots, it seems as though there is no stopping the force that is '90s and noughties fashion. Our inner style radar is now permanently trained to pick up any looks that give a nod to Princess Diana circa 1993 or a thumbs-up to throwback films such as Muriel's Wedding. Yes, that's right—nailing the '90s trend is all about those niche cultural references. And in our latest installment of "Old-School Trends You Thought You'd Seen the Back Of," we're celebrating the return of strappy sandals.

Originally championed by the cool, lesser-known brands of the fashion world such as Ganni, By Far and Attico, the 2019 strappy sandal is a trend that anyone can get on board with, thanks to its stripped-back, minimalist aesthetic. The high street is also getting in on the action: Just look at Topshop's bargainous strappy sandals that sold out within days of release. Trust us—half of the Who What Wear UK team owns a pair.

We love how Anne-Laure Mais has paired her pink By Far sandals with white jeans, a knotted blouse and a white bag. Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, Hannah Anderson's relaxed jeans–and-shirt combo delivers a more laid-back interpretation. However you decide to wear them, one thing's for sure: These shoes were meant to be slipped on after work and strutted down the city streets as if you're Carrie Bradshaw.
