We've all been there: It's 7 a.m. on a Monday morning and the autumn weather is starting to creep in, which makes leaving your bed that little bit more difficult. All you want to do at this point is roll onto the tube cocooned in your duvet, slipper-clad and clutching a mug of tea. Sadly, this is never really going to be a socially acceptable way to traverse the London Underground at peak commuter time, but I am happy to tell you that one of this season's biggest coat trends is not a million miles away from this dream scenario.
The clue is in the name: The duvet coat (also known as quilted, padded or puffer) is essentially the sartorial equivalent to a duvet day. These babies can be chucked over any outfit and you'll instantly feel toasty warm, which is great news for those of us that hate having to lug around a million layers during the coldest months of the year.
While in previous decades this trend has had a more youth-focused aesthetic, for A/W 19, it's all about elegant, grown-up creations (undoubtedly thanks to the chic stylings of Bottega Veneta). Of course, there are still plenty of classic, sporty iterations to go around, but I'm loving the more unusual designs that are breaking the puffer-coat mould, such as Arket's trench coat/puffer look or Totême's quilted interpretation, which has plenty of old-school housecoat vibes.
