The Cosy, Anti-Trend Coat Style All Our Editors Are Relying On Right Now

We've all been there: It's 7 a.m. on a Monday morning and the winter chill is still in full swing, which makes leaving your bed that little bit more difficult. All you want to do at this point is roll to your desk (whether it's in your living room or an IRL office) cocooned in your duvet, slipper-clad and clutching a mug of tea. Sadly, this is never really going to be a socially acceptable way to attend a meeting, Zoom-based or otherwise, but I am happy to tell you that one of the biggest coat trends of the last year is not a million miles away from this dream scenario.

The clue is in the name: The duvet coat (also known as quilted, padded or puffer) is essentially the sartorial equivalent to a duvet day. These babies can be chucked over any outfit and you'll instantly feel toasty warm, which is great news for those of us that hate having to lug around a million layers during the coldest months of the year.

While in previous decades, this trend has had a sportier aesthetic, this season, it's all about elegant, grown-up creations (undoubtedly thanks to the chic stylings of Totême, Frankie Shop, Bottega Veneta and Prada). Of course, there are still plenty of casual styles to go around, but I'm loving the more unusual designs that are breaking the puffer-coat mould, such as Nobody Childs's wrap coat/puffer look or & Arket's quilted interpretation, which has plenty of vintage housecoat vibes.
