These Oversized Dresses Are the Coolest Thing You'll Wear This Summer

The oversized look is slowly but surely becoming one of those era-defining fashion trends that we're sure to remember for years to come, with all tastes and body shapes discovering the comfy cool-girl appeal of roomier silhouettes, be that in the form of shirts, jeans or dresses. "I feel like Vetements really paved the way for the oversized look," muses celeb stylist Aimée Croysdill. "It was a real moment that has been picked up as a solid trend, and I hope it never goes away."

The oversized dress is a key style within this fashion movement, with designer and high-street brands alike jumping on the bandwagon. The trend's mass appeal may have started out in the form of that Zara polka-dot dress, but in the intervening years, it has changed guises many times, manifesting in everything from nightie-style smocks and roomy T-shirt dresses to tiered maxis and linen-clad, loose button-downs, and it has been worn for both lockdown lounging and wedding-ready ensembles. This season, the offering on the high street is as eclectic as ever, which, in our opinion, is never a bad thing.

The oversized T-shirt dress is definitely having a moment this season, and COS is our go-to in this department, with calf-grazing styles coming in both classic neutrals and colour-pop brights. I have also noted the return of the mini, which creates a very chic, '60s-inspired finish when paired with a roomier fit, especially when styled with knee-high boots. I've also thrown in a few cheeky vintage options, as, in my opinion, this is the sort of dress that is so easy to find second-hand. Ready to go?
