These Under-£50 Coats Are So Good You Might Just Want All 5

Building a winter wardrobe can quickly become expensive, but we're about to reveal a place where you can buy trenches, puffers and velvet coats for less than £40. Seriously. Here at Who What Wear UK, we're constantly on the lookout for new high-street heroes, and Matalan has really upped its fashion game this season with pieces that truly defy their price tags. 

We have turned to fashion influencers Gemma Talbot, Sophie of A Fashion Slave and Chelcie Nicole M. to show the five amazing coats they have discovered in Matalan and how they are going to wear them this winter. Influencer Gemma Talbot says of her Matalan padded coat: "Velvet is definitely a key trend for A/W 17, and puffer jackets have dominated once again this season. So a velvet puffer jacket really does nail two trends in one. And let's face it, you really can't go wrong with this super-soft texture. "As for styling a black coat like hers, here's her top tip: "I always try and accessorise my outerwear with a statement ankle boot to steer the outfit away from looking too dull, especially if the coat is black."

"I usually survive on a style diet of jeans and jumpers in the winter, so having a good collection of coats can really make you stand out in a crowd and brighten up grey winter days," says Sophie. "I love the faux-fur black biker jacket because the fur is so incredibly soft. Because it's oversized, too, you can layer a nice chunky jumper under, and it's perfect for a crisp, cool day."

Sophie also styled Matalan's £40 padded coat and explains how she tends to style her outerwear: "I'd usually team them with jeans and a tee, and as the winter gets on a little bit, I'll add a jumper in a bold colour or with an eye-catching print."

Chelcie might have a classic, minimal wardrobe, but she shows that from time to time everyone should have fun with their outerwear too. She kept the rest of her look simple and paired her Matalan black-and-white faux-fur coat with a classic black handbag, black leather skirt and white T-shirt. 

"A classic coat can transform an average outfit into something so chic," says Chelcie Nicole M. "I would have to say my favourite coat is the classic trench. With our unpredictable weather, I love to layer throughout the winter months, and this lightweight piece is perfect for that. I've styled the trench with this season's favourite printed tee and my go-to black jeans. When purchasing a coat, I always try to look for something that I can wear season after season, and this style will never go out of fashion."
