It's Officially Sandal Season—These Are My High-Street Favourites

I’m ready to buy sandals. In all honesty, I’ve made a purchase (okay, two) already. Sandals, like bikinis or It dresses, wait for no stylish person. The best versions do sell out fast and particularly when they’re chic and at the lower end of the price spectrum—aka the sweet spot for any smart girl buying sandals.

You may know by now that I’m a big advocate of buying quality over quantity, and well-made shoes do last longer, look better and are more likely to be comfortable. However, because sandals get so battered so quickly (not to mention, they become dirty when you’re walking around a city like London every day), I would say this is one shoe type that you can legitimately spend less on and not feel like you’re compromising on style or your morals.

Like always, make sure you are purchasing wisely: Are your chosen sandals versatile, stylish, comfortable and likely to look just as on-trend next year? All of these boxes need to be ticked if you want longevity from your more affordable footwear.

I’ve noticed a few stores that are really pushing forward within the summer sandal realm (Topshop and Mango included), producing chic, grown-up and elegant styles that I feel have staying power and look like they are made to be more sturdy than some cheaper footwear. Keep scrolling to see the high-street sandals on my radar.

Best high street sandals: Mango's orange strappy heels

I had a sneak preview of Mango's summer sandals at the brand's press day—boy, are they good. From minimalist brown mules (that are already taking off on Instagram) to a pair of strappy shell-dotted black sandals that I'm buying immediately, there's a lot to love here.

Best high street sandals: Arket monochrome ankle-strap heels

Arket's edit of shoes may be small, but it is perfectly formed. The higher price point and focus on design detail really separate this brand from many of its high-street peers. If you are a minimalist, this is your home now.

It probably hasn't escaped your attention that Topshop's aptly named Strippy sandals have been basically stripped from the shop floor on repeat—these cannot sell fast enough! They are fabulous and three members of Team Who What Wear have a pair, but there's more to Toppers than this one shoe hit.

Best high street sandals: New Look strappy sandals

I have a soft-spot for New Look shoes. More often than not, they won't be made of leather (although there is a premium range it often doesn't feature the more trend-driven styles), but I've found in the past that when you go for a mid or lower heel they can be really comfy. Particularly, if you can hunt down your chosen pair in a wide fit. More room means more chance you'll last in a pair of strappy heels.

Every damn year, Zara knocks it out of the ballpark with their brilliant sandals. The brand's penchant for Carrie Bradshaw–style strappies continues, but there's more to enjoy from the super-brand.

Now all that's left to do is decide which colour nail polish you want
