These 22 Expensive-Looking High-Street Coats Will Carry You Right Into 2020

Did you know that there are still 40 days until the shortest day of the year? That means the nights are going to get even darker. "How is that possible?" I hear you cry. I'm no Brian Cox, but due to the South Pole being tilted towards the sun, it's currently winter in the Northern Hemisphere, and the days are getting darker by three minutes more every day. Short of relocating to Australia for six months, there's only one solution: Ensure there are moments of joy in your life.

For me, that means having a nice breakfast, a lot of coffee and wearing a coat that makes me feel rich and warm at the same time. That doesn't mean you need to spend a lot of money, though. It just means you want to find a piece of outerwear that will make you feel special and fancy even when you're just wearing jeans and a jumper.

Good news then, as there are plenty of high-street winners around right now that look especially expensive. My personal trick for ensuring a coat looks pricier than it is is to go for something more tailored and in a block colour. While the majority of the edit below sticks to this rule, there are a few exceptions where it's the material, the colour or print that makes the outerwear look like you've forked out more than you did. Keep scrolling to shop the edit below for your ultimate winter coat on a budget.
