This Product Will Make Your Hair Feel Instantly More Expensive

I'm something of a fragrance fanatic. I collect and display bottles like they're pieces of art (which, in some cases, they are), and feel naked if I leave the house without having applied a few generous spritzes of one of my favourite scents. I don't believe in saving perfume for best—I have no qualms about generously dousing myself in Byredo Rose of No Man's Land for a standard Monday morning commute or Dior Holy Peony for a weekend trip to the supermarket—and constantly marvel at the way that stepping out in a fragrance that you love can shift your entire mindset for the day.

So with all of that in mind, I've been delighted to notice that an increasing amount of fragrances have been landing in the Who What Wear beauty cupboard over the past few weeks. The difference with this latest wave of perfumes, though, is that they're formulated specifically to wear one way: in your hair.

A surefire way to make your hair feel instantly more expensive, this new wave of fragrances have been specially formulated to stick to the strands of your hair and imbue your style with a gorgeous scent. Plus, they contain nourishing ingredients to care for your hair at the same time and impart a glossy shine.

With top fragrance houses like Jo Malone and Byredo leading the way when it comes to the best hair perfumes on the market right now, it's also a great way to add a piece of luxury perfumery to your beauty stash in a more affordable way. Celine Roux, head of fragrance at Jo Malone London, says, "Hair mist is a totally different formula. The mist is very respectful to the hair. It's filled with nourishing and conditioning ingredients yet is very lightweight, leaving your hair with a slight sheen and a delicate scent."

A fresh, floral fragrance that has me dreaming of warm spring days. It disperses a wonderfully lightweight mist that contains softening ingredients for healthy hair.

One of my favourite fragrances in hair mist form, this new launch from Byredo features the same notes of fragrant Turkish rose petals, sweet raspberry blossom and heady white amber that is absolutely addictive. I'll spray this in my hair in the morning and can still smell it by the time I get home at night.

I'll admit that I was sceptical about this Molton Brown hair mist. For me, this is a brand that's decidedly old-school in its appeal (my nan, for instance, loved getting hand-cream sets for her birthday), but my preconceptions were wrong. This is a dreamy scent of fruity mandarin, fragrant patchouli and a burst of rose and jasmine that dries down into a sweet, powdery clean aroma on your hair.

To me, this is a clean, fresh, masculine scent—not a fragrance that I'd usually go for on my body but, on my hair, it just works. A blend of green apple, cedarwood, rose and musk, it does a great job of refreshing second-day (and third-day) hair when your strands might need a little bit of a pick-me-up. In fact, this and a dry shampoo are my current "in-between washes" dream team. It also contains silk amino acids and olive oil to protect your hair from damage throughout the day.

If you've ever smelt a Soap & Glory product, then you'll know what to expect from this hair perfume, which features the brand's classic original pink fragrance. In case you haven't, then know it's a sweet mix of peach, strawberry, gardenia and summer rose. This mist uses neutralising technology to tackle unwanted odours and a blend of argan and marula oil to boots shine for glossy locks.

The fifth fragrance in Dior's iconic J'adore range, J'adore in Joy has been given the hair mist makeover. Described as a salty floral scent, its a decidedly fresh and feminine fragrance that really lingers on your hair. Zesty bloody orange, green neroli and damask rose make for a hair perfume that will definitely turn heads.

An iconic, sophisticated scent from fashion house Tom Ford, this is a dramatic floral fragrance that is made for evenings. More lightweight than the classic eau de parfum, this hair mist still delivers a rich layer of Black Orchid scent to your hair. Even better, it contains UVA and UVB filters, so your hair will be protected and smell amazing.

Possibly the chicest hair perfume that I've ever had the pleasure of trying, fans of the orange- and patchouli-infused Chanel Coco Mademoiselle will love this. Spray it directly onto your hair or onto your hairbrush to work the scent through from roots to tips.

A purse-friendly option from salon brand Toni&Guy, this is a really zesty, citrus-fresh hair perfume that genuinely smells like you've just washed your hair. Alongside the fragrance benefits, it's a real shine-boosting treat—adding a glossy glow you'll normally only see after a professional blow-dry.

Not only does this nourishing mist deliver a full bouquet of rose fragrance to your hair (centifolia and damascena rose, to be specific), but it really enriches your strands with hydration and shine so your hair will look soft and silky, too. Plus, if you're a Diptyque fan like I am, you'll feel a sense of joy from just how pretty this bottle will look in your bathroom.

This spritz from Ouai is marketed as a shine-boosting mist rather than a fragrance. But I can confirm that this stuff just smells like expensive hair. Yes, it does a great job at adding gloss, hydrating dry ends and de-frizzing, but it also adds the scent of fancy shampoo and decadent oil to your strands. The fact that you can spray it on your body is an added bonus.
