This Product Will Make Your Hair Feel Instantly More Expensive

I'm something of a fragrance fanatic. I collect and display bottles like they're pieces of art (which, in some cases, they are), and feel naked if I leave the house without having applied a few generous spritzes of one of my favourite scents. I don't believe in saving perfume for best—I have no qualms about generously dousing myself in Byredo Rose of No Man's Land for a standard Monday morning commute or Dior Holy Peony for a weekend trip to the supermarket—and constantly marvel at the way that stepping out in a fragrance that you love can shift your entire mindset for the day.

So with all of that in mind, I've been delighted to notice that an increasing number of fragrances have been landing in the Who What Wear beauty cupboard over the past few weeks. The difference with this latest wave of perfumes, though, is that they're formulated specifically to wear one way: in your hair.

A sure-fire way to make your hair feel instantly more expensive, these new fragrances have been specially formulated to stick to the strands of your hair and imbue your style with a gorgeous scent. Plus, they contain nourishing ingredients to care for your hair at the same time and impart a glossy shine.

With top fragrance houses like Jo Malone and Byredo leading the way when it comes to the best hair perfumes on the market right now, it's also a great way to add a piece of luxury perfumery to your beauty stash in a more affordable way. Celine Roux, head of fragrance at Jo Malone London, says, "Hair mist is a totally different formula. The mist is very respectful to the hair. It's filled with nourishing and conditioning ingredients yet is very lightweight, leaving your hair with a slight sheen and a delicate scent."

Jo Malone CBE, founder of Jo Loves says that hair mists can be versatile and even more long-wearing than your usual perfume. "Just like fragrance, hair mists are designed to deliciously scent your hair for all occasions. The lightweight formula allows the scent to linger all day without weighing down or damaging your hair. It also works on all hair types," she says.

Best Hair Perfumes

1. Jo Loves A Fragrance Hair Mist in Fig

This sweet yet fresh scent reminds me of picnics on sunny days. It disperses a wonderfully lightweight mist that contains softening ingredients for healthy hair. "When your hair is dry or feeling a bit lacklustre, hold the mist 15 to 20 centimetres from your head and lightly mist your locks for shine and a burst of scent," says Malone.

2. Byredo Rose of No Man's Land Hair Perfume

One of my favourite fragrances in hair mist form, this features the same notes of fragrant Turkish rose petals, sweet raspberry blossom and heady white amber that is absolutely intoxicating. I'll spray this in my hair in the morning and can still smell it by the time I get home at night.

3. Balmain Hair Perfume

This hair fragrance from Balmain is seriously chic. If you like your hair to smell just as good as when you walk out of the salon, then you'll enjoy the floral notes of orange blossom, jasmine, sandalwood and cedar, which make this smell very expensive indeed.

4. Sachajuan Protective Hair Perfume

To me, this is a clean, fresh, masculine scent—not a fragrance that I'd usually go for on my body, but on my hair, it just works. A blend of green apple, cedarwood, rose and musk, it does a great job of refreshing second-day (and third-day) hair when your strands might need a little bit of a pick-me-up. In fact, this and a dry shampoo are my current "in-between washes" dream team. It also contains silk amino acids and olive oil to protect your hair from damage throughout the day.

5. Jo Malone London English Pear & Freesia Hair Mist

English Pear & Freesia is Jo Malone's best-selling scent, and you can bet that this hair fragrance version smells just as good. To me, it's the ultimate fresh-hair fragrance.

6. Frédéric Malle Portrait of a Lady Hair Mist

This iconic fragrance has become a modern-day classic in the perfume world–and you can now scent your hair with it. This is the kind of perfume that walks into the room before you do, and it has notes of rose and patchouli that mingle with musk and sandalwood. Expect compliments to come flooding in wearing this.

7. Maison Francis Kurkdjian Amyris Femme Hair Mist

Another expensive-smelling hair mist that looks as good as it smells, with notes of lemon and orange blossom that are tempered with amber and musk, it smells very addictive indeed.

8. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Fresh Hair Mist

Possibly the chicest hair perfume that I've ever had the pleasure of trying. Fans of the orange- and patchouli-infused Chanel Coco Mademoiselle will love this. Spray it directly onto your hair or onto your hairbrush to work the scent through from roots to tips.

9. Parfums de Marly Delina Hair Mist

If you want your hair to smell like an expensive bouquet of flowers, then you'll want to mist this through your hair. Not only does it have impressive lasting power, but the notes of lily of the valley and peony waft with every swish of your hair.

10. Diptyque Eau Rose Hair Mist

Not only does this nourishing mist deliver a full bouquet of rose fragrance to your hair (centifolia and Damascena rose, to be specific), but it really enriches your strands with hydration and shine so your hair will look soft and silky, too. Plus, if you're a Diptyque fan like I am, you'll feel a sense of joy from just how pretty this bottle will look in your bathroom.

11. Gisou Honey Infused Hair Perfume

Gisou's cult line of haircare also includes a fragrance, and we can attest that it smells delicious. This floral, honey-infused fragrance also has antioxidants and amino acids to fortify and nourish your lengths.
