The Only 8 Things I'm Wearing on Repeat This Autumn

As someone who loves shopping way too much to limit themselves to a set quantity of fashion items, I have to say I’ve never really been a capsule-wardrobe person. Trust me—I commend those people, and my wallet and storage situation would both be all the better for it were I one of them, but sadly not all things are meant to be.

Interestingly, however, this season I realised that despite everything I’ve bought and already owned, something of a capsule wardrobe has in fact developed in my day-to-day style, with eight items doing the majority of the heavy lifting for most of my outfits. Curious to know just what they are? Keep scrolling to see and read about the eight pieces I’ve been wearing on repeat all season long, and while you’re at it, shop them along the way.

1. Blazers

As you're about to see, I don't wear a lot of blouses, trousers that aren't jeans or heels on a day-to-day basis, so blazers are my way of adding at least one polished piece to any outfit as of late.

2. Black Boots

While I'm a fan of most boot styles—too many, in fact—I tend to stick to just one colour when shopping and dressing, and that's black. Not only does the shade ensure a pair will be versatile, but it also ties an outfit together way more than a coloured or lighter neutral boot would.

3. Cardigans

As I've mentioned already, I'm very into cardigans right now, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I love wearing them alone, layered over tops, as jackets, under jackets, over my shoulders and any other way one can imagine. As such, I've acquired quite a few so far this season and will likely be adding even more as we get into winter.

4. Long-ish Jeans

My ideal denim for the season is not too long, not too short, but just right. I have a black pair, a grey pair and the blue pair above, all of which meet my criteria, and I've been rotating the three daily depending on what else I'm wearing and the general vibe I'm going for.

5. "Wild" Bags

Think anything animal-inspired, from snake-print to croc-embossed to fur and shearling (or, of course, faux). For me, this season, the easiest way to spice up an outfit has been with a wild (but still neutral) bag, and it's a trick I highly recommend.

Of everything in this roundup, these are probably the most "essential" to not just my but any autumn wardrobe. From tees to turtlenecks to mock necks and thin sweaters, I rely on an arsenal of easy layering tops to wear with the blazers above, the shackets you're about to see below, and everything else. Having those squared away makes getting dressed every day so much easier.

7. Shackets

You know the shirt-jacket hybrid? Turns out it makes for the perfect autumn outerwear option. I have the above faux-leather one, an old suede style and my eyes on a few more to wear throughout the rest of the season then into winter layered under coats.

8. Retro Sneakers

Lately, whenever I've needed (or deserved) a break from my black boots, my flat shoe style of choice has been a pair of retro sneakers. It's partly a random mood thing that has drawn me to them, but they also just sit perfectly with all my new, long-ish jeans (as seen below), and I just love the way they look.
