Out of All the Designer Shoes, These Are the Ones Truly Worth Investing In

Shoes, shoes, shoes. We can't help but love them. So much so that if we tallied up all the pairs the Who What Wear editors own, we would most definitely need a calculator. Of course, we can get on board with a brilliant expensive-looking high-street shoe find as much as the next person, but when it comes to footwear, nothing quite beats the thrill of unboxing (and slipping on) a beautifully made luxury pair.

And because shoes are one of those items that can really make an outfit, transforming it from plain to showstopping in seconds, and because you tend to wear your favourite pairs again and again over many years, we're of the opinion that the cost per wear when investing in a designer pair you adore becomes worth it rather quickly.

Of course, it's all about finding the perfect pair for you so that you get the most out of them. And not just the most wear (although, looking out for a timeless style helps) but also the most joy. Because shoes are undeniably something that brings happiness to our wardrobes, whether that comes from wearing a beautiful classic like The Row's Zip Front boots or a bold statement piece like Amina Muaddi's mules or Jimmy Choo's Aveline bow heels

So if you've been considering levelling up your shoe game for a while and want to make sure the styles you pick are going to stand the test of time, as well as enhance your wardrobe (and your life), you'll want to keep scrolling to see our edit of the all-time best designer shoes money can buy. We've tried to cover everything from heels you can dance the night away in to mules that are perfect for heading back into the office with and ankle boots you can wear all year round. Don't worry—we won't keep you apart any longer…

1. Mach & Mach Bow Pumps

Mach & Mach is the newest It shoe brand on the block, but that doesn't mean it's any less covetable—or classic. If you're after a pair of fun-loving party shoes for shoes' sake, it has to be these.

2. Gucci Jordaan Loafers

Timeless, effortless and guaranteed to elevate everything you own. Every good shoe wardrobe should have a pair of Jordaan loafers.

3. Manolo Blahnik Maysale Mules

Everyone knows Manolo is the king of beautiful shoes, and the Maysale is one of his all-time best designs. Feminine yet modern, the low heel is perfect for dressing up but still comfortable. Of course, these come in an array of colours, but the navy dresses up jeans beautifully.

4. The Row Zip-Front Ankle Boots

The ultimate black chunky ankle boots. The Row's zip-front leather style has proved it's more than just a craze over the years, and everyone we know who has it always gushes over how much wear they get out of it.

5. Prada Platforms

Prada platforms are one of those shoes that have reached icon status in fashion circles. If you're looking to tap into 2022's stacked shoe trend but want a pair that will stand the test of time, opt for these.

6. Saint Laurent Loafers

A beautiful spring shoe option that can't be argued with.

7. Loeffler Randall's Plissé Mules

We often get asked for advice on great but comfortable heels. Loeffler Randall's plissé styles are always what we recommend.

8. Paris Texas Knee-High Boots

For endlessly flattering heeled knee-high boots, it has to be Paris Texas.

9. Christian Louboutin Kate Pumps

A neutral, not-too-high heel will see you through many a fashion emergency.

10. Aeydē Suede Ankle Boots

The perfect ankle boots for wearing all year round. The quality is amazing.

11. Amina Muaddi Mules

If you're the kind of person who wants their shoes to put a smile on their face, it's important you own a pair of Amina Muaddi heels. They'll bring any and all outfits to life, from ball gowns to jeans and a white T-shirt.

12. Chloé Woody Slides

You've seen (and loved) the Woody tote bag, but the sandal iteration should not be overlooked. The perfect balance between minimalist and logoed up.

13. Manolo Blahnik Lurum Heels

I personally have these heels and can vouch for their comfort. They may be flashy, but they're actually so versatile and work really well with everything from baggy jeans to minidresses.

14. Bottega Veneta Quilted Slides

Beautiful sandals to elevate all your spring and summer looks.

15. Manolo Blahnik Black Pumps

Both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are huge fans of Manolo's simple black pumps for making their outfits look polished. If they trust them for comfort and style, then we do too.

16. ATP Atelier Leather Sandals

If you're on the hunt for the perfect versatile leather sandals, look no further. These are incredibly chic and classic, so you know you'll wear them for years to come.

17. Khaite Suede Mules

We know Khaite does beautiful clothing, but don't underestimate its shoe collection. It's full of unique but timeless pieces like these mules, which are perfect for returning to the office.

18. Hermès Oran Sandals

Choosing a pair of Hermès sandals is a smart investment. These have been the go-to summer sandals for the most fashionable feet for many, many years now.

19. By Far Sofia Ankle Boots

Dare we say these are the perfect black ankle boots? By Far's leather is such beautiful quality you can count on these for comfort and style.

20. Jimmy Choo Aveline Bow Heels

Guaranteed to bring you joy every time you slip them onto your feet. If you're a heel person, Jimmy Choo's Avelines are essential.

21. Jimmy Choo Biker Boots

The original biker boot. A little grungy, a little polished, a lot of style points. Of course, they're the perfect accompaniment to leggings and skinny jeans, but we also love them for dressing down midi dresses.
