Hands Down, These Are the 20 Best Denim Jackets for Spring

When I say that denim is back for spring/summer 2021, I mean that literally every designer and high-street brand is making a huge deal out of this material. Whether it's in the form of a new collection of jeans, jackets, dresses, skirts or all of the above, there's no escaping the fact that in 2021 it's all about denim. The one item, however, that I feel has been a little overlooked for a few years is the denim jacket. Back in 2017, the Balenciaga oversized look (worn off-the-shoulder) was one of the bigger more popular styles. And then, it kind of just petered out--other jackets such as the oversized blazer or leather jacket became more popular. I just know, however, that this year is time for it to make its comeback. But, I'd say, not as you know it.

The silhouettes that are being backed this season are way more interesting than before. Yes, there's an oversized look (so if you invested in the Balenciaga, then you can rest easy), but there's also acid wash, cropped, workwear, and my personal favourite, patchwork. On this last style, Stella McCartney has a belted version that all of the Who What Wear team loves but thankfully there's also a more affordable option from Arket. Isabel Marant's trademark oversized shoulders can be seen on her acid-wash jackets but I also love Mango's mishmash of trends with its faded patchwork denim. If you're looking for something truly interesting, don't overlook designers Marques' Almeida or the tie-dye version from Dior. Keep scrolling to see denim jacket styles on the runway from recent years and then shop the best.
