Swimsuits weren’t always the most exhilarating swimwear option—that is, until Georgiana Huddart’s 2015 reboot of Hunza G’s seersucker swimsuits. This year, the Y2K resurgence is a strong current infiltrating even the stealthiest of fashion items. As a result of the cut-out trend, the repute of swimwear has had a 360-degree revamp, and cut-out swimsuits are now considered a highly coveted resortwear piece for summer 2022.
This year, swimsuits are showing up and showing out beyond the realms of the practicality quota, and they’ve blown the itsy-bitsy bikini out of the water. Featuring a multitude of designs from discreet keyhole detailing to wide oval gapes and angular airwaves, the variants are strong and sexy.
Thanks to the cut-out trend, swimsuits have been given a new lease on life. They’re finally on a level playing field with bikinis (if not more appealing). Many styles feature angular gapes on either side or flirt with the asymmetric trend. Brands including Peony and Sir have accomplished identical designs to their ready-to-wear collections, so you’ll find twinning dresses and swimsuits.
