Don't Just Attend Your Christmas Party—Be the Party in These 20 Tops

December dressing is usually all about the party dress; however, I have a feeling this festive season will be a little different. This is mainly down to two new brands—16 Arlington and Halpern—that are making "going-out tops" more exciting than ever with OTT sequins, bold colours and feathers. The fabrics we're opting for this season are all-over sequins, lamé, metallics and, of course, velvet. There's a serious nod to the '80s with huge shoulders, one-shoulder tops, lots of ruffles and some serious bling—especially when it comes to Alexandre Vautier. Camis are also a total fail-safe for Christmas parties, and I'm a strong believer in having plenty of them in my wardrobe at all times for when that last-minute invitation arrives. Team a metallic cami with jeans and embellished mules and you'll instantly have an effortless party look.

1. Sequinned Party Tops

We're so into the sequin tassels on this top.

This Monse top is the cool girl way to party.

Pair this with a light-wash pair of jeans for a super-chic contrast.

An alternative way to do sequins (less is enough sometimes).

2. Velvet Party Tops

The colour and shape of this top is just everything.

If you want to play it low-key, this one's your answer.

We're obsessed with this pyjama-style top.

Magda Butrym always knows how to do a great festive top.

Wrap tops are so flattering. We're also really into this print.

3. Cami Tops

If festive dressing isn't your thing, this is a great alternative.

Red equals Christmas, right? This spaghetti top will have you feeling festive without being a fashion victim.

Animal print is still going seriously strong, so this is the perfect Christmas party attire.

In my book, green and red are the key to feeling festive.

4. Metallic Party Tops

Everything about this top screams Christmas party. Just look at those '80s shoulders.

Metallic and satin fabrics are a key way to feel festive but in a subtle way.

Don't just attend the party—be the Christmas party with this one.
