Nothing Signals Summer Quite Like This One Classic Trend

If you want an idea of what safe, classic trends, it always pays to look towards the Middletons, as all the women in this family avoid loud gimmicks and favour crowd-pleasing basics. In the heat, Kate, Pippa and Carole all turn to one British summertime staple: broderie anglaise. White broderie anglaise dresses have long been the established uniform at Wimbledon and Henley (along with wedge espadrilles and straw hats); however, this cutout lace is also appearing in more daring forms this year.

Brands like Zimmermann, Ganni and A.W.A.K.E Mode have put their own unique spin on broderie, with citrus colours, floral prints and statement silhouettes. Many high-street brands have followed suit and shown that this can be made into so much more than a white pretty dress. ASOS, in particular, have got behind this trend, with puff-sleeved maxi dresses and pretty camisoles leading to a surge in sales ahead of summer.

High on our wish list is Ganni's bright yellow cotton broderie minidress and an orange button-front dress from Neon Rose. If you are after something a little more classic, however, there is certainly no shortage of white broderie anglaise around, with our favourites including a top from Les Reveries and a throw-on midi skirt from Topshop.
