5 Autumn Jacket Styles You're About to See All Over Your Instagram

We've come to the end of a rather lackluster British summer, which can only mean one thing: It's time to start thinking about jackets. You can keep your pumpkin spiced lattes and your opaque tights for now—jackets are easily my favourite thing about autumn. While I already have a few trusty styles to hand that I pull out every single year, it's been a while since I treated myself to a new jacket, so right now, I'm officially in the market for some on-trend outerwear. This, however, isn't a purchase I'll make lightly. This jacket will have to carry me through the foreseeable future and go with everything I already own to make it worthwhile and justifiable. I'm not asking for much, right?

Finding such a jacket requires extensive research—browsing new-in section after new-in section. Needless to say, I take shopping very seriously. And it was during these cyber travels that I realised there were seven types of jackets that kept cropping up.

From truly classic jackets making a comeback to small updates that make a big difference, I have a feeling these autumn jackets are going to define the season ahead. With styles to suit minimal aesthetics and those with an enduring penchant for cottagecore, scroll on to see the best autumn jackets.

1. LEATHER BLAZER

Style Notes: An offshoot from the '90s, the leather blazer has since proven itself to be a perennial jacket option. In 2020, Arket's oversized iteration sold out in a matter of days, but fret not for in 2023, there are significantly more options to shop in both real and faux fabrications.

2. BOMBER JACKET

Style Notes: With the current weather forecast looking pretty grey, it's about time to start thinking about small wardrobe updates. This is the best time to make autumn investments. Bomber jackets add a sports luxe feel to almost any outfit. The shell shaping adds an understated, cool-girl look to anything you throw it over the top of.

3. BELTED JACKETS

Style Notes: Isn't it incredible how a small update can make all the difference? To me, belted jackets always look more expensive, whether you opt for a blazer, shacket or shell shape.

4. RELAXED BLAZERS

Style Notes: 'Tis the season to start integrating light outwear back into the fold of our wardrobe. Relaxed blazers have seen quite a resurgence of late and they're now considered a staple piece. Either worn with dresses, matching tailoring or even loungewear, it's a piece everyone can put their stamp on.

7. BOUCLE JACKET

Style Notes: Bouclé is a trend that tends to flow in and out of popularity in the fashion world, but you can always guarantee it'll make a comeback sooner or later. And this season, it's already making waves. Right now, stylish types are wearing it in jacket form, complete with low-slung jeans or matching skirts in the style of Clueless
