13 Autumn-Ready Outfits We Can't Stop Looking at This October

As I type, we're entering the first week of October, and the weather finally feels like it's transitioning into autumn, which is reflected in the new-in sections that have been well and truly taken over by jackets, ankle boots and an autumnal colour palette. Even though we aren't really ready to say goodbye to bare legs or weekends in the park, we are ready to say hello to some of these new collections.

Autumn outfits can require quite a bit of planning. Coat or no coat? How many layers are too many layers? The below outfit ideas will see you through the transition into autumn. We find that this time of year when stock is switching over from linen dresses and sandals to knitwear and trench coats is the perfect moment to take a pause and really think about what is missing from your autumn wardrobe before you start adding to it.

The below outfits include several classics that you'd typically expect from an autumn capsule, including trench coats, leather jackets and jeans, alongside some new additions which feel really relevant this autumn. Think Mary Janes worn with ankle socks, '70s-style fringed suede jackets and pleated skirts that look amazing when worn with blazers. 1. Long Sleeved Blouse + High-Waisted Trousers

Style Notes: Experiment with autumnal colours as well as longer sleeves and high-waisted trousers for a current look.

2. Blazer + Jeans + Heeled Ballet Pumps

Style Notes: There's nothing easier to wear than a checked blazer thrown on over straight-leg jeans and a white T-shirt. Keep the look as A/W 2019 friendly as possible by adding a pair of ballet pumps.

3. Short Dress + Leather Trousers

Style Notes: Not ready to give up on your summer dress? Layer it over a pair of leather trousers. Provided it's not pouring, you can also get another wear out of your strappy sandals and match them with your favourite summer bag.

4. Slip Skirt + Denim Jacket + Biker Boots

Style Notes: This slip skirt and biker boots combination is one we guarantee you'll see over and over this autumn. Take a tip from Lucy Williams and wear yours with a denim jacket and a white T-shirt.

5. Suede Jacket + Slip Dress

Style Notes: Wear your printed slip dresses that you've liven in all summer with a suede jacket with '70s fringing.

6. Statement Trench + Jeans

Style Notes: Statement trench coats are set to be big news in autumn 2019 thanks to this JW Anderson beauty. Pair with a T-shirt, jeans and ankle boots.

7. Pleated Skirt + Shacket

Style Notes: One of our favourite trends for autumn/ winter 2019 is pleated skirts, which look amazing styled with either a blazer or a shacket.

8. Leather Skirt + Matching Knit

Style Notes: Leather is another big trend for autumn, and we love how Lisa Aiken pairs her vegan leather wrap skirt from Nanushka with a matching stone knit and white strappy sandals.

9. Camel Jacket + Jeans

Style Notes: This is an old autumn classic: jeans with a wool jacket in camel or beige tones and black ballet pumps.

10. Knit Dress + Leather Jacket

Style Notes: Knitted dresses and skirts are set to be key buys this autumn, and we love how Sylvie pairs her ivory ribbed knit with an oversized leather jacket and black mules.

11. Trench Coat + Cream Jeans

Style Notes: Alexis might be wearing a coat, but her outfit still looks summery thanks to her bright white trainers, beige jeans and white T-shirt.

12. Statement Trench + Neutral Separates

Style Notes: If you can't quite bring yourself to let go of your summer staples, make like Jessie and style beige city shorts with a skinny roll-neck and colour-pop trench.

13. White Trousers + Layered Knits

Style Notes: Vens Wife Style carries on 2018's scrumper tradition, but this time with a heritage print cardigan and wide-leg white trousers. A perfect fusion of summer and autumn.
