Our We Try Before You Buy series aims to take the stress out of shopping and eliminate the number of post office visits you make each month to return failed online orders. We're testing new-season buys so you don't have to, thus saving you some coin by letting you know what's worth the spend.

The volume of new products on ASOS is always vast, and the autumn/winter 2018 collection has just dropped, making decisions harder than ever. To simplify things (and save you hours of scrolling), we tried on the seven things that we think are the best in ASOS right now. From the checked pencil skirt suit that was a London Fashion Week success story to a bright pink boilersuit that's just waiting to be Instagrammed, keep scrolling to shop the ASOS pieces that we're loving right now.

1. Heritage-Check Pencil Skirt

"I love the vintage feel to this skirt suit. The longer pencil skirt hemline and checked fabric feel authentically retro. I'd say that if you're short and curvy like me, size up on the bottom half (the size 12 was a bit snug on my thighs), but go smaller on the jacket. Also, like all more affordable skirts and dresses that aren't lined, a slip skirt underneath wouldn't go amiss," says Hannah Almassi.

2. Pink Bow Shoes

These velvet kitten heels are some of the prettiest shoes I've seen this season. They are certainly sitting-down shoes for dinner parties, however, as I found (as is often the case with slingbacks) that the straps slipped off my ankles.

3. Bright Pink Boilersuit

When I pulled my ASOS choice out of the bag (this bright pink boilersuit), my colleagues were a little surprised by this bold choice. I've never actually worn a boilersuit before, but what I really like about this version is that the bodice is fitted, so I don't feel too much like a lost construction worker.

4. Checked Dress and Western Boots

"I actually already own a polka-dot version of this dress, which I wore constantly last year, and as I'm not someone who turns their nose up at wearing the same thing multiple times, it seemed only natural that I would go for an A/W 18 update on the look. I love the new-season check and the loose silhouette, which is perfectly complemented by ASOS's brown Western boots. I also think it'll look great with a roll-neck jumper layered underneath for winter," says Joy Montgomery.

5. Borg Jacket

"I thought the coat looked great—I just wish it was a little bit thicker. It makes for a good layering piece and reminds me of Paul McCartney in the '70s (in the best way possible). Different from my usual taste, but in a good way," says Isabel Mundigo-Moore.

6. OTT Leopard Coat

"I couldn't love this coat any more. There's something satisfyingly 'tacky' about it: the brashly oversized leopard, the giant shape of it all… win!" says Almassi.

7. Lilac Cord Suit

At first, I thought the shape of this jacket was a little boxy, but I grew to really love the strong shoulders and single-breasted silhouette. The turn-ups on the trousers make them more relaxed than a typical trouser suit, making this a perfect weekend look.
