The Only Ankle Boot Trends You Need to Pay Attention to This Year

While you can't beat a classic pair of black leather Chelsea boots, ankle boots now have more personality than ever. You're just as likely to see a pair of silver mirrored stiletto boots on your commute as a classic tan pull-on. The street style set has been having fun with colours and prints, and bright red boots are the most buzzed-about style of 2017 so far.

Style Notes: Red ankle boots exploded in December 2016, and while we suspected that this might be a festive trend that would die quickly after the holidays, the red boot trend is still gaining momentum. Red boots are huge this autumn, as they featured in dozens of A/W 17 collections, including Victoria Beckham, Valentino and Fendi. So this is a boot trend that is for the entire of 2017, not only for Christmas.

Glitter Boots

Style Notes: Last season, it was all about mirrored, silver boots, and now, thanks to Chanel, glittery ankle boots are here to tempt any magpies. These ankle boots have been all over fashion month, and the high street has jumped on the trend too.

Sock Boots

Style Notes: The sock boot is arguably the boot of 2017, as these colourful tight boots with pointed toes and sky-high heels have been a street style favourite and are big news in Zara and Topshop right now.

Style Notes: The white shoe has finally ditched its unfortunate rep and is back in a big way, thanks to the '80s fashion revival. We love white ankle boots with extra embellishment or detailing, whether that is with a silver buckle, kitten heel or statement coloured heel.

Cowboy boots

Style Notes: This year, one unlikely boot trend keeps cropping up again and again—cowboy boots. In 2004, we all wanted a pair of distressed, embroidered cowboy boots, thanks to Sienna Miller, and come September, we'll all be wearing them once again. But this time they are a sleeker iteration, such as Gigi Hadid's city western-inspired boots she wore earlier this year.

Style Notes: If you've read our shoe trend guide, you'll know that the kitten heel is back, and this not only applies to mules and slingbacks but to ankle boots as well.
