After past collaborations with designers like Diane von Furstenberg and Kenzo’s Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, Evian has tapped Alexander Wang to redesign its iconic water bottles. In place of the usual outline of the French Alps, the Evian x Alexander Wang bottles are emblazoned with a large bar code (some black, some white) that, as WWD first pointed out, wink at the project’s support of conspicuous consumption. “There’s a little bit of irony to it,” Wang conceded. As for why he decided to work with the brand, a move that’s definitely new for him, the designer had this to say:
“We don’t just live with clothes and shoes. We sit on furniture. We go to restaurants. We drink. We eat. To be able to take our brand and expand into lifestyle and work with partners that have perfected what they do is something I learn so much from and really stimulates me.”
Touché, and given Wang’s popularity, we have a feeling these bottles are going to fly off the shelves. Although, the larger public will have to wait a little bit to check them out—they will make their debut at his upcoming spring fashion show and after-party before popping up at select hotels, retailers, and restaurants in the coming months.
