Much to the delight of the show’s enormous fan following, The Walking Dead returned for its fifth season Sunday night on AMC—to record ratings we might add. To celebrate, we caught up with series regular and self-proclaimed fashion fanatic Alanna Masterson to talk first style memories, cooking, and her famous brothers. Get to know the beauty now with our exclusive Q&A.
Question 1: What’s your favourite part about working on The Walking Dead?
I would say the cast and crew. They are my family now. We all work the same hours and the same hard, long nights. We strive to make [the show] the best every time, and I think that’s why it’s so great.
Question 2: Is there an actor or actress who inspires you?
I would love a career like Sandra Bullock’s. She can do anything, comedies, dramas—she’s so brilliant.
Question 3: What’s the story behind your Instagram name @lucytwobows?
Lucy Two Bows was a nickname given to me by one of my best friends about four years ago. I had these Rachel Antonoff brogues with two red bows on them. I’m from New York and all my friends were making fun of me saying, “Oh, look at this two bows kid over here, Lucy Two Bows,” and it just kind of stuck. I never wanted to change it. A lot of people have their Instagram handles as their names as far as branding goes, but I kind of liked having an alter ego.
Question 4: What’s your first fashion memory?
My first fashion inspirations were lead actresses in movies. Mia Farrow has all these amazing dresses in Rosemary’s Baby. Her style is very simple, but I remember thinking, “Oh, I want to dress like that.” There is so much to take from how well people are dressed in movies, like Diane Keaton in Annie Hall.
Question 5: How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is very comfortable. I love to mix and match and sort of step outside the box. I’m always trying to change it up and do different looks for each event.
Question 6: What are you obsessed with fashion-wise right now?
I like to channel James Dean in a girl way, because I’m a bit of tomboy. I love a good pair of jeans and a good white t-shirt. I’m sucker for shoes and bags, so if I’m wearing jeans and a t-shirt, I will have really awesome shoes on or a nice bag.
Question 7: What’s your favourite thing to do when you have free time in Atlanta?
I’m big movie buff, so I go to the movies a lot. The last movie I saw was Gone Girl. I read the book, and I am huge fan of David Fincher. It was very, very cool.
Question 8: If you weren’t an actress, what would you want to do?
I would be a chef. I love to cook; I cook every night. I have a huge family, and my mum and I cook for all of my brothers. I am constantly buying every food magazine. I am always getting new recipes and have every kitchen thing you can imagine. I make a really yummy butternut squash risotto, which is a winner, and I make ricotta pancakes for my brothers on Sunday morning.
Question 9: Your brothers are all in the business, too. Have you learned any valuable career lessons from them?
Yes, definitely. What I learned the most from my older brothers [Danny Masterson, Christopher Masterson, and Jordan Masterson] is the amount of respect and the manners they had for everyone. I thank everyone every night before I leave work and shake everyone’s hand. [My brothers] were so gracious to their cast members and crew. No matter where you are on the spectrum in this business, everyone should be treated the exact same, because you treat people how you want to be treated. I never was on a high horse.

Question 10: Can you give us a snapshot of your pop culture musts right now?
What are you watching: I am watching a show called The Return on the Sundance channel. It’s incredible and similar to The Walking Dead.
What are you listening to: I really love the band The War on Drugs.
What are you reading: The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It’s a book that my mum gave me.
