From vertiginous pumps to strappy heels, comfort often takes a backseat when it comes to fashionable footwear. While nights out usually result in aching foot pain and a smattering of blisters, we're here to tell you that your shoe choice for fall can indeed be both comfortable and chic! So stop piling on the Band-Aids and ditch those stilettos because there's a new shoe in town: the slipper! That's right, we're talking about the boudoir staple once reserved for lazy days lounging at home. But today, we've seen savvy trendsetters wearing slippers in ultra-sophisticated ways, hence today's Accessory Report! Whether you try a fanciful pair a la Alexa Chung or opt for a patent version a la Elizabeth Olsen, your feet will surely thank you!

In addition to the fantastic slippers spotted in The Row's F/W 11 collection, we've noticed a handful of celebrities donning these comfortable shoes in a myriad of ways. Alexa Chung and Karen Gillan, for example, both incorporated slippers into their ladylike looks and topped off their ensembles with fantastic coats. The former attended the Mulberry 40th anniversary celebration in New York last month wearing Charlotte Olympia's Kitty Embroidered Velvet Flats ($660), along with a Charles Anastase top and Mulberry's Ankle Length Trousers in Black Stretch Corduroy ($480), Polly Push Lock Trend Coat ($1180, 212.835.4700) in Birdnest, and Mini Alexa Bag ($800, 212.835.4700). We think the cat-face-adorned shoes and the skull keychain hanging off her bag are perfectly in keeping with Chung's quirky-cool aesthetic, no? We're equally in love with Gillan's outfit at the TV Choice Awards in London last month. For the event, she chose a vintage Dior dress, vintage jacket, and Bertie's Georgetta Flats ($105). We particularly like how her slippers and oversized coat gave her look an easygoing-yet-glam feel, which adds up to a truly noteworthy look in our books!

While Chung and Gillan opted to wear their slippers with prim ensembles, Elizabeth Olsen and Poppy Delevingne emphasised the relaxed vibe of this flat footwear with more casual clothing choices. Olsen was spotted out and about in New York earlier this month wearing ASOS' Suitcase Print Blazer ($63), T by Alexander Wang's Combo Blouse ($210), Christian Louboutin's Mikarani Patent Leather Flats ($2195), and a Louis Vuitton bag. We love how she paired the comfortable shoes with fluid, uncomplicated pieces, which created the perfect laid-back ensemble if you ask us! We're just as impressed with Delevingne's smart outfit at the Louis Vuitton S/S 12 show earlier this month, which consisted of a shirt, shorts, and shoes by said house, a Jo Sykes leather jacket, and Ray-Ban's Original Wayfarers ($145) in Red. Wearing contrasting prints can sometimes be tricky to pull off, but Delevingne certainly made it look easy! Additionally, her bold leopard-print shoes and tough leather jacket give her outfit an enviable cool-girl look we definitely love.

Convinced you need a pair of slippers pronto? We think we've hit the nail on the head with our picks and hope you love them as much as we do! If you're smitten with Chung's whimsical shoes, you'll adore Del Toro x Tibi's Blue Billy Slippers ($365). They're part of a limited-edition collaboration, so be sure to snag a pair before it's too late! With its cute hummingbird detail, we think Penelope Chilvers' Navy Dandy Velvet Shoes ($516) are similarly playful. If you're partial to Delevingne's boldly printed pair, we think you'll appreciate Jeffrey Campbell's Elegant Velvet Shoes ($110) in Black Floral and J. Crew's Darby Calf Hair Loafers ($275). Feeling daring? Emulate Delevingne by clashing the pattern with a printed dress or shirt, or simply team it with all-black pieces to allow the shoes to stand out. If you're craving a more understated option a la Gillan we've got you covered there too. Just pick up ASOS' Leo Velvet Slipper Shoes ($63), French Sole's Velvet Loafer Flats ($138) in Wine, or Rochas' Woven Loafer Flats($695), which are all extremely versatile choices that will go with any look.-Erin Fitzpatrick
