Not Surprising: THIS Type of Model Gets Cast in More Shows

Elyssa Goodman

As excited as we are to see more and more body diversity on runways and in fashion campaigns, recent scientific research suggests this is, unfortunately, far from being a priority.

According to Yahoo Style, researchers at Indiana University tracked the height, hair color, eye color, waist, hip, shoe, and dress sizes of 400 female models in the Fashion Model Directory, along with their modeling agency and the runways they walked. All of this information was collected after the New York Fashion Week S/S 14 collections.

Based on the data collected, the research showed models who are tall and slim are still overall preferred by the industry. There unfortunately was a negative relationship between a larger dress, shoe, and hip size and a model's ability to book jobs.

There is hope, though; all of this research is only based on what was happening a year ago. Maybe if the present viewpoint on body diversity is changed in the fashion industry, the outcome of a similar study in the future will be different.
