Why Too-Thin British Models May Soon Be out of Work

Progress: The British Parliament is currently considering legislation that would require health checks for models every three to six months, aiming to protect them from the all-too-powerful pressures to be thin for their careers. Model Rosie Nelson, a U.S. size 4, started a petition over the weekend to get such a law all the way to the Parliament—and her petition gained more than 50,000 signatures almost overnight. Nelson was inspired to create the petition by her own negative experiences in the industry. "When I walked into one of the U.K.’s biggest model agencies last year, they told me I ticked all the boxes except one—I needed to lose weight. So I did," her introduction to the petition reads. "Four months later, I lost nearly a stone [approximately 14 pounds], two inches off my hips. When I returned to the same agency, they told me to lose more weight, they wanted me 'down to the bone.'" Oh, the irony: Kanye West admitted on a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians that he's actually terrified of 3-D printing as it pertains to the fashion industry. "This is what I'm afraid of, because the Internet destroyed the music industry, and now, this is what we're afraid of right now with the textile industry," the rapper said when shown the 3-D printers. "There will come a time when people are making their shoes at home." His stance on 3-D printers is rather surprising considering that in the past he's claimed to be all about the "democratization" of fashion. [Racked]

Expanding the clan: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are in the process of adopting another child, their seventh. Jolie met with three Syrian orphans on her last trip to the poverty-stricken country, and the couple has decided to bring one of the little tykes home. [Marie Claire]

Not bad for a woman who schedules her blackouts: Amy Schumer just landed herself a major book deal. According to some reports, the winning bid for the comedian's debut tome reaches up into the high seven figures—a huge win for the funny girl, who just a year ago was a relative unknown. [Vulture]

Don't get it twisted: Kendall Jenner has opened up about precisely what makes her beauty regimen (and overall aesthetic) so different from younger sister Kylie's. [PopSugar]
