At Who What Wear UK, we always strive to tell you about the next big trend before it's become a thing yet so you are able to buy the new cult products before they sell out. That is why we have set up Microtrend Monday,—your weekly alert to let you know the items or styling tricks that are suddenly taking off.

This week our Instagram feeds have been filled with the smug shots of wise people who decided to opt out of the first week of January blues and relocate to the beach. We might only be days into 2018, but there's one swimsuit trend that is already gaining momentum—belted retro one-pieces. Belted bikinis are a classic Bond girl move, as both Halle Berry and Ursula Andress wore belts around their bikini briefs, but this year it has moved into swimsuits.

"This season swimwear is more elevated than ever with designers referencing the '70s, '80s and '90s," says founder of Beach Flamingo and swimsuit expert Lily Russo. "Belted leotard shapes and go-faster stripes are your reference points for this trend. These sporty-inspired suits have been reworked in of-the-moment primary hues and rainbow palettes to make them one of the most-flattering and eye-catching trends of the summer. My favourites are by Solid & Striped in white and a really beautiful shade of green." Keep scrolling to see how the Instagram set are wearing this one-piece, and shop it below.
