In 50 Years' Time, Everyone Will Still Be Talking About These Rihanna Outfits

There's a reason Rihanna's style is considered a cut above other celebrities. She is always willing to experiment with new looks, she uses multiple stylists (one of whom is our columnist, Avigail Collins) and she wears everything with a confidence we can only dream of. But perhaps the biggest reason Rihanna's sense of style is so incredible is that you can tell she genuinely loves the world of fashion. Whether that's creating sell-out collections for her Fenty x Puma collab, holding awe-inspiring fashion shows (note: see last season's New York Fashion Week stint) or just making everyone else wish they'd spent as much time on their Met Gala dress as she did, it's clear that she has a lot of respect for fashion.

The consequence of this is that she is a true chameleon when it comes to her personal style. Rather than stick to a formula (she would never be so pedestrian), Rihanna goes with what works for the day and the event. She's a real lesson in how to dress according to how you feel. To prove our point on her changing looks and how she can wear anything and still look on top form, we've rounded up some of her best outfits. From the sassier ensembles to the more demure, as well as her love of athleisure, there is practically no aesthetic she won't try. Keep scrolling for our guide to how Rihanna always keeps her wardrobe interesting.

#1: Ultimate Pop Star

Style Notes: First and foremost, Rihanna started as a pop star, and her wardrobe has always reflected that. Her stylist Mel Ottenberg was behind many of her incredible ensembles during her Anti world tour, but it was this green coat she wore during the iHeartRadio Music Awards in 2015 that we still can't stop thinking about.

#2: Hollywood Bombshell

Style Notes: The great thing about Rihanna's style is that when she wants to change up her look, she still stays true to her love of bright colours, such as with this Hollywood bombshell outfit by Alexandre Vauthier.

#3: Ladylike Glamour

Style Notes: And just like that, Rihanna turns around and gives us total ladylike chic in pastel colours. Complete with a fur wrap and matching pink makeup.

#4: Princess Vibes

Style Notes: At the 2015 Grammys, Riri went all out in this Giambattista Valli creation. Just when we think we've got her style pegged, she goes and does this.

#5: Masculine Tailoring

Style Notes: This is such a different look for the singer, but it's one we can't help but love. The masculine velvet jacket by Stella McCartney is super sassy on her with just black tights, heels and a diamond choker to accessorise the whole ensemble.

#6: Off-Duty Chic

Style Notes: Then again, no one does off-duty style quite like Rihanna. Even though she's wearing a hoodie, a grey tee, sweatpants and sneakers, the bomber, sunnies, triple designer handbags and red lipstick make this classic Rihanna.

#7: A "Body" Look

Style Notes: As you've probably spotted by now, Rihanna doesn't just wear figure-hugging pieces or even flashes a lot of flesh. She's much more considered when it comes to showing off her incredible figure. But sometimes an outfit calls for it, such as this Stella McCartney two-piece from the Met Gala in 2014.

#8: Athleisure

Style Notes: Seriously though, athleisure owes a lot of its popularity to the fact that Rihanna made tracksuits look this good. True, Gigi, Bella and Kendall might be doing this all the time now, but it all started with RiRi.

#9: High Fashion

Style Notes: Attending a fashion show calls for a high-fashion vibe. At the 2015 Dior show, Rihanna turned up looking utterly FROW-ready.

#10: A "Naked" Dress

Style Notes: Other than Cher, there is no one who can do the "naked" dress as well as Rihanna. Case in point: RiRi wearing this Adam Selman gown. And we'll hear nothing else on the matter.

#11: Date-Night Ensembles

Style Notes: Want a great date-night outfit? Look no further than this jeans and camel coat look. We have no idea if she was out on a date, but it's still a great outfit for dinner and a movie.

#12: Fashion Designer

Style Notes: The pop star and actress added "fashion designer" to her CV in 2016 by creating the clothing collection Fenty x Puma. The furry sliders became an instant sellout and were the item everyone was desperate to snap for Instagram.

#13: Avant-Garde Style

Style Notes: No one can say RiRi doesn't care about fashion. At this year's Met Gala, the star wore a dress by Commes des Garcons to reflect the year's theme of Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between. Everyone who showed up probably just wanted to go home after seeing this.

#14: Directional Silhouettes

Style Notes: Want to completely overhaul your style? Do something no one is expecting, aka "doing a Rihanna." This oversized outfit is probably one of her most divisive, but she still looks damn pretty.

#15: Girly Dresses

Style Notes: At the launch of her Fenty beauty range this year, Rihanna proved that girly dresses, such as this one from Molly Goddard, can totally work for her as well. She often goes to London designer Molly Goddard for these fancy frocks.

#16: Queen of the Met Gala

Style Notes: While this is yet another Met Gala gown, this one will go down in the history of best-ever dresses. After looking up Chinese couture on the internet (because she's cool enough to do her own research, people), she discovered the designer Guo Pei and commissioned this epic yellow gown. Oh, and it took two years to make. Now that's a real love of fashion.
