A First Look at the New Oscar de la Renta Exhibit
The beloved designer Oscar de la Renta, who passed away in October of last year, forged close ties with the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2001, when he was honoured with its André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award. In return, de la Renta lent a good chunk of his time and money to the school, cementing a bond that would only grow over the years.
Now, as part of the opening of its Atlanta campus fashion museum, SCAD Fash, the school is paying its respects to the designer with a namesake exhibit that spans his career—the earliest piece is a 1965 cocktail dress once owned by socialite C.Z. Guest, while the newest is a design by ODLR’s new creative director, Peter Copping, who has done a great job of carrying over de la Renta’s legacy.
WWD got a first glimpse at the collection—which also features dresses worn by the likes of Taylor Swift, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Beyoncé—and it looks as glamorous as you might expect. The exhibit only runs through the end of the year, so you may want to start planning a trip to Atlanta.
