Graduation is coming up! What should I wear?
Whether you are picking up a diploma yourself or simply supporting someone, graduations are one of life's most frameable moments. So when considering what you're going to wear, make sure you go for something classic and proper, above all else. There are a few questions you should ask yourself when shopping for the big day. Will I still like this look in 10 years? Is my ensemble appropriate for classmates, faculty, and grandparents alike? Do I look stylish and wise? Can I walk comfortably? With this mind, here are some tips for passing the outfit test with flying colours.
Styling Suggestion #1: Go for a classic dress. If the dress looks like something either Audrey Hepburn would wear to a ladies' lunch or something the First Lady would wear to a daytime benefit, you're going to hit the mark. A simple fit-and-fladress that hits right below the knee feels equally on-trend and timeless. Sleeveless or three-quarter sleeves are best, as they won't bulk up your shoulders under a graduation gown.
Styling Suggestion #2: Add a skinny belt. You don't want to look like you're wearing a tent, so be sure to nip in your waist with a slim belt. When in doubt, go for something understated and in a neutral colour, like beige or black.
Styling Suggestion #3: Resist wearing sky-high platforms or wedges. These styles can definitely feel dated and can be difficult to walk in. Instead opt for a timeless pump--pointy or roundtoe--that won't steal the show. This is another great time to introduce a pop of colour into your look.
Styling Suggestion #4: Keep your accessories to a minimum. We like simple gold studs or pearls, little necklaces, or a special, dainty watch. Save your statement pieces for the after-party, if you must!
