This Coat Style Is Selling Out Everywhere

You know by now that the puffer coat has been one of the key coat trends of the season. But there's new data that suggests this is easily the most popular jacket style everyone wants to wear right now. According to Lyst, the world's biggest online fashion site, searches for puffer coats increased by 280% in October, even though it wasn't especially cold for the time of year.

There's one look in particular, however, that has been especially popular. The best-selling styles are the biggest coats, with oversize designs and XL sizes selling out first. Shoppers are willing to spend over £1000 on their dream luxury puffer, and bright colours, bold prints and tactile fabric puffers are notably popular with UK shoppers.

Lyst isn't the only place that has seen a significant increase in search for puffer jackets. According to research conducted on shopping site Stylight, puffer jackets saw a 220% search increase in October compared to September 2016 and is increasing year on year by 300%. Interestingly, trench coats are 40% down year on year, but bomber jackets were still popular this October, with searches going up by 100%.

So what has been the driving force behind this oversize puffer look? Well, as you know, we have cited Drake as being a big reason for everyone wanting a puffer, but we also know it's very much thanks to the huge jackets as seen on the Balenciaga's A/W 16 catwalk, including that big red puffer coat. In fact, the biggest brands selling out are a mix of high street and luxury, with Balenciaga, Raf Simons, Stella McCartney, Topshop and Zara, featuring as the main sellouts.
