Geek Chic Glasses: Zara and Alexa Chung Agree They're Cool

Hannah Almassi

Geek-chic glasses were everywhere last summer. From Kendall Jenner to Emily Ratajkowski, no A-lister was okay with being left out—prescription or not. Usually, we'd expect such a divisive trend to peter out once it hits mass adoption, but 2017 continues to look strong on the nana-inspired frames front. The outfit-changing accessory is even picking up some new arbiters of taste along on the way (Alexa Chung, for starters) as well as surprising high-street supporters (Zara is 100% in).

This is proof that the idea of geek chic never really goes away, but that it does constantly reinvent itself. These belle laide frames in 2017 take inspiration from the lines of 1970s Wonder Woman Lynda Carter or (whisper it) Terry Richardson's signature wire aviators. However, some girls are taking the idea a step further with thick acetate glasses in different pastel colours, from the likes of Chloé and Cutler and Gross. There's even a move away from the classic aviator frames to more rounded shapes. The kind of which Deirdre Barlow would be proud. If you're wondering how to style them, look no further than these A-listers and influencers who casually fling a pair on with any ensemble.
