Demi Lovato has long been a champion of body positivity, and sure, you can look no further than her Instagram account for evidence, including the singer-songwriter’s powerful workout posts or confident swimsuit photos. But as of this month, Lovato is spreading her message in a completely different way, with her very first athletic collaboration collection with Fabletics, which was founded by Kate Hudson. Demi Lovato for Fabletics is also the first partnership for the size-inclusive line, and it’s instantly obvious why these two are natural partners.

“Many activewear companies don’t design workout clothes for women of all sizes and body types,” Lovato points out when we chat with her over the phone. “With my collection, I wanted to make sure we were including flattering details and comfortable fits for all women because fit and healthy isn’t one size fits all. No two goals are the same.” Then, inciting perhaps our biggest gym-clothing annoyance, she adds, “I also want to be able to feel good when I’m working out and not in see-through leggings.”

With this in mind, Lovato made sure the opacity was on point for her collection of XXS-to-3X leggings and that “the compression on the pants are great.” As further incentive to help women get moving, the first-time athletic gear designer infused motivation right into her garments. “We incorporated phrases like ‘confident’ and ‘stay strong’ to keep every girl feeling comfortable in their own skin and on their own personal journeys,” she tells us about the affirmations seen scattered in the collection.

“I think designing these clothes is a huge part of incorporating my message with feeling confident while working out,” she says. Even if you’re not quite as devoted to leggings as Lovato is—she admits she styles hers exactly the same for working out as she would for running errands—there’s yet another reason to support the unique line. “A portion of the proceeds from my collaboration will be donated to Fabletics’s ongoing partnership with Girl Up,” Lovato shares, “so that’s really exciting.”

Below, take your first look at the collaboration, shop it mid-May at Fabletics, and stay tuned for an even bigger collection drop this summer from the Demi Lovato partnership.
