Introducing a deeply polarizing new footwear trend: "sneakdals," as we're dubbing them. Bear with us as we’re not being silly—there’s simply no other term for what’s emerging in the shoe world right now.

Popping up across the footwear departments of sports brands, high-end designers and Zara alike is a new footwear hybrid that appears to tick off all we’d ever need in summer shoes. If running sneakers and sandals had a love child, it would undoubtedly result in—see?—sneakdals: cutout, sports-inspired flats with cushioned soles that fasten with laces, a Velcro strap or, best of all, espadrille-style ties.

The marriage of the two vastly different styles is genius because these are shoes that you can run for a bus in (Ever tried doing that in a hard-as-nails, flat leather sole? Impossible) and allows for breathability when the heat hits. The practicalities of this union sound like a no-brainer, but what about the style stakes? We warned you that this was a controversial one…
