Must-Read: Cindy Crawford's Bold Statement on Modern-Day Models
Cindy Crawford is part of the original crew of supermodels from back in the '90s. (Her cohort included Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell.) And today, Crawford said something powerful about the state of the industry for modern-day models.
"I feel like I lived through the heyday of modelling," she says. "Models are not really getting [magazine] covers now, and they’re not getting the big cosmetics contracts, and that’s where the money is. It’s actresses and singers and reality TV people."
She continues: "The reason supermodels could come into being was because Hollywood actresses wanted to be taken seriously. They didn’t want the red carpet to be a catwalk, which it has now become."
Hmmm... Could Crawford's words have been a direct insult to the likes of Kendall Jenner, who has parlayed her reality television career into a major high-fashion moment? And what about It-models like Cara Delevingne and Gigi Hadid, who are creating major names for themselves just off their modelling abilities?
