Fact: Everyone Bought These 12 Items in 2016

Can you remember every last piece of new clothing you bought in 2016? Perhaps you're one of those people who has been meticulous, organising your wardrobe on a regular basis and knowing everything that's in there. Or perhaps you're that person who buys on impulse and loves to invest in trends, however fleeting they may be.

At Who What Wear UK, we have incredible insight into how you shopped this year (not in a creepy way, we promise). From the most read stories on the site, we were able to see which pieces you shopped and loved more than anything else. From the perfect petite leggings (thank you, Topshop) to the must-have off-the-shoulder satin blazer, as well as investing in that one trend Olivia Palermo can't get enough of, we found core pieces that we know you'll want to shop before the year is out—that's if you haven't already, of course.

Keep scrolling to find out the 12 items you shopped the most this year…

The Blogger Shoe

After we spotted many different bloggers wearing this pair of shoes from Mango during September's fashion month, you all flocked to buy the same pair. While you can't buy this pair anymore, we predict this shoe might be the next to take off.

Off-The-Shoulder Dress

After Who What Wear columnist Ashley Madekwe professed her love for this River Island off-the-shoulder dress, we noticed a spike in what you were all after. We guarantee the popularity of the off-the-shoulder dress will continue waaay into 2017.

The straw bag

Thanks to the resurgence of the iconic Jane Birken basket bag (there's even an actual Instagram account dedicated to the cause), it's no surprise that we saw plenty of these being bought this year, in particular, this Mango bag that sold out quickly. But there are plenty of others still on offer.

Leopard-Print ankle boots

Sam Edelman's brand of affordable designer shoes was a huge hit this year, particularly this pair of leopard-print boots. The thing about the LPB is that it makes any outfit look instantly cooler, which is why you'll still want to shop for a pair now.

Backless Dress

There's definitely been something going on with back details over the past couple of years. To prove our point, you've all been keen on buying up this backless dress from & Other Stories.

Shop the look:

Dungarees

The dungaree has become a must-have wardrobe item for some time. They are versatile and sit in that sweet spot of casual and dressy (when worn with heels). Not only that, but there were also plenty of A-listers wearing them as a nod to the '70s.

The Skinny Scarf

Thanks to Olivia Palermo who couldn't stop wearing the skinny scarf trend this year, many of you jumped on this look and decided to invest too. The most popular one was this option from ASOS.

Satin Blazer

One item we didn't realise would be so popular was this black satin off-the-shoulder blazer. The piece was the second-most bought item on ASOS this year by Who What Wear UK readers. And the best news? You can find out what all the fuss is about as it's still available to buy.

Shop the look:

Petite Leggings

We probably don't need to tell you that leggings have been huge this year. Just the fact that they took over jeans, in terms of the most-bought trouser, this year says it all. But the ones that you were most bothered about? These petite leggings from Topshop. The reviews alone should be enough persuasion to purchase these super-flattering trousers.

Shop the look:

Slip Dress

While 2016 was undeniably the year of the slip dress, thanks to one of our favourite bloggers, Lucy Williams, there was one Topshop slip dress that everyone was after. Of course, it's now sold out now but we're partial to this silver and black version.

Grey marl sweatshirt

Of course, we all want to be hot on the latest trends. But then again, you still want the basics to fall back on when you're stuck for new outfit ideas. In step, the grey marl sweatshirt, which was one of the most popular items you bought this year.

Camel coat

Another classic look is the camel coat. Unsurprisingly, this piece will last you through many different seasons, which made it a big item for Who What Wear UK readers this year.
